Career

Dietrich Tergau (born in 1962 - †2022) founded TERGAU & WALKENHORST Patentanwälte Rechtsanwälte [Patent Attorneys, Attorneys at Law] in 2011, together with Dr. Andreas Walkenhorst and has been manning the ship from our Nürnberg location ever since.

 

He studied Business Administration and Engineering (specializing in Mechanical Engineering) at the Technical University Berlin-Charlottenburg, with a major in Production and Automation Technology, and gained international experience with a construction equipment manufacturing company in the USA and a vehicle supplier in France. After completing his Engineering degree, he worked as an engineer in the automotive industry in the area of ​​production preparation and production simulation.

 

Dietrich Tergau began his training as a Patent Attorney in 1990 in his father's patent attorney's office Tergau & Pohl in Nürnberg. In 1992, he moved to Munich and started working in what is today the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court. Being responsible for disputes in all areas of intellectual property protection within the Regional Court of Nürnberg - Fürth, he completed his training at the Nürnberg-Fürrth Court division for intellectual property protection, and was sworn in as a Patent Attorney on June 17, 1993, after having passed the German patent attorney examination with a distinction. In 1994, he was tested and approved as a European Patent Attorney. Ever since the current Office of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) opened in Alicante, Dietrich Tergau has been approved to work there as a European Trademark and Design Attorney.

 

In 2000/2001, he completed a professional development training at FernUniversität Hagen [distance teaching university], with a major in Mediation, which Dietrich Tergau graduated with the distinction, being one of the top 10 graduates in his class.

 

In 2005/2006, Dietrich Tergau ended his education in the distance learning program called "European Intellectual Property Law" at the Kurt Haartel Institute of the FernUniversität Hagen, with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree, with the overall grade "very good".

 

Dietrich Tergau was the honorary Head of the working group Nordbayern of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property and Copyright Protection (GRUR) between 2008 and 2013 and was a member of the association's Board of Managing Directors. Between 2011 and 2013, Dietrich Tergau was a member of the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys (BDPA), serving at its President from 2011 to 2013.
